Unveiling More Enchanting Tales
The Haunted Mansion isn’t just any attraction – it’s a story-filled adventure! And guess what? The new changes are all about expanding on the story and history of the mansion itself. Disney promises to dive even deeper into the lore by connecting it to the sea captain who first built it!
What is the tale behind Disney’s The Haunted Mansion in Disneyland?
If you aren’t familiar with the story of the sea captain, this concept was introduced and developed by Disney Imagineer Ken Anderson who worked on the Haunted Mansion.
The sea captain’s name was “Captain Bartholomew Gore” who had brought his new wife Priscilla to the manor as he was very wealthy. It was said that the captain was known to have a temper and an evil eye later expressed as “The Devil’s eye”. One day when the captain was away, Priscilla decided to explore the mansion and came upon “an old journey tucked away in his desk… and a curious sort of skeleton key”. Within the journal Priscilla had read about how “Black Bart, the pirate who plundered the Caribbean” had come to do “murderous deeds” and with the listed dates and incidents listed she thought to investigate a sea chest in her husband’s study and she unlocked a “terrible secret!” Soon after this, Priscilla was nowhere to be found ALIVE!
Disney later decided to change this storyline. Instead it will be leaving guests with other tidbits from this original concept that guests have come to experience when entering the Haunted Mansion.
