When is the best time of year to visit Disneyland or Disneyland California Adventure?
The question of when to visit the Disneyland Resort has been asked many times and the honest answer that I give is that it depends on what you are wanting to get out of your trip. I think anytime visiting the Disney Parks is magical, but I do recognize there are some benefits to planning out your trip in advance.
According to Disneyland.com, they have stated that they expect “lower crowds from mid-September through mid-November (before the Thanksgiving break)” and the second time frame with lesser crowds being “mid-January through mid-March”. Visiting the parks during these months may mean less wait times to ride the attractions which is immensely valuable! During the more crowded times of the year, I would highly suggest purchasing the Disney Genie + to help with skipping long wait times. If you are unfamiliar with how this system works, you can read all about it here.
I would say that since Disney introduced the reservations system, it is likely this information holds true more so now than in years past in terms of tracking “peak seasons” (i.e., times where the parks are more crowded).
Disney also has structured block out dates into their calendars for those who are Magic Key holders to help spread out the crowd levels. If you are unfamiliar with what being a Magic Key holders is, you can read all about it here.
If you plan your Disney vacation during the less crowded times this increases your odds of having more options to you with selecting rooms at the Disney hotel properties (e.g., the Disneyland Hotel, Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel, Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel). However, something to keep in mind is that the Disneyland Park and Disneyland California Adventure Park operating hours change!
Disney takes advantage of their time during less crowded months to close out attractions that need a little tender love and care for updates which they will announce on their website as “closed for refurbishment”. Additionally, Disney will offer less entertainment options and events during the lower crowd seasons which includes parades and fireworks shows!
The current scheduled attractions for refurbishment are listed here below at the time of this publication (visit on Disneyland.com or check on the Disneyland app for updates)
Disneyland Park starting January 09, 2023 (Monday)
- “It’s a small world” Holiday
- Indiana Jones TM Adventure
- Tarzan’s Treehouse TM
- The Disney Gallery
- The Disneyland Story presenting Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln
Disney California Adventure Park starting January 09, 2023 (Monday)
- Grizzly River Run
If you don’t mind going to the Disney Parks during more peak seasons because you want to be able to enjoy all of Disney’s events, extended hours, entertainment, and attractions then I suggest you plan your visit during a weekend! For example, you would want to attend during the holiday season of Christmas, Spring Break or anytime during the months of June through August.
