Everything you need to know about Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway attraction at Disneyland
The Grand Debut at Disneyland
The wait is finally over! Disneyland welcomed the latest addition to its collection of rides, “Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway” on January 27, 2023 during its 100 Years of Wonder. This attraction takes you on an exciting and unpredictable journey with Mickey and Minnie as they attempt to plan a day out and they run into Goofy whose train goes off the rails!
What you will experience during the Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway Attraction
The attraction showcases a cartoon world filled with vibrant colors, quirky characters, and plenty of surprises. One of the most unique features of “Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway” is the use of state-of-the-art technology. The ride uses 2D animation and 3D projection mapping, creating a fully immersive experience for guests. With no track in sight, guests are taken on a wild and whimsical journey through the cartoon world, filled with twists and turns at every corner. I will warn you that it does move quite a bit and there are no individual belt buckles, just a lap bar. But it’s fun! “Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway” is a must-visit for all ages but I do believe it is perfect for children.
Here are some notes and tips to make the most of your ride on “Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway”
Tip 1 – Arrive Early: Currently there are no standby lines and the only options you have to ride this attraction is by joining the Virtual Queue (VQ) at 7 am or 1 pm which is FREE or you can purchase the Lightning Lane (LL) on Disney Genie + through the Disneyland app. If you haven’t yet done go to this link to do it now.
- You can expect that this attraction will be in popular demand as it is still opening weekend! During its debut, for the 7 am VQ, I was unable to join as the boarding passes were gone in a matter of SECONDS! However I always come prepared and plan B was to get a LL which got me in at 9:10 am when I was in the park at 7 am!
- No guest can enter the VQ more than once per day according to the Disneyland app. You can however purchase an LL and get a VQ the same day like I had. However on opening day my VQ return time got pushed back from its original time of 4:35pm to 11:30 pm! I was not going to miss Wondrous Journey’s debut so I opted to skip it since I rode this attraction with the LL!
- Be aware that depending on your visit, the prices for LL may fluctuate and be higher or lower and LL’s must be purchased for each person in your party.
- The benefit of purchasing an LL for this attraction is no wait time in line! I was able to grab breakfast (which you may have seen on my Instagram story that day), but of course you can always do a ride or two before your LL!
Tip 2 – Be sure to confirm that all of your members in your party on the app have been linked to get them the VQ. Also review that your Disneyland app is up to date to reduce any likelihood of glitches.
- Boarding groups are subject to availability and not guaranteed as I have mentioned earlier.
Tip 3 – Watch Out for Special Effects: The ride includes special effects, such as flashing lights and loud noises, so be prepared and keep this in mind if you or someone in your party is sensitive to these elements.
Tip 4 – Watch out for hidden Mickeys throughout the VQ line and in the attraction itself!
Tip 5 – Please be aware that Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway attraction may close in order for Disney to accommodate for their firework performances so I recommend riding this attraction earlier in the day to avoid this!
