Disney Announces No More Virtual Queue for Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway Attraction at Disneyland starting February 22, 2023
Disneyland guests will be able to experience the whimsical world of Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway attraction without having to join a virtual queue. Starting February 22, 2023, Disneyland will no longer require guests to use a Virtual Queue (VQ) to ride this popular attraction and there will be a standby line.
Many attractions that Disney has introduced to the parks when they were new have required guests to join a virtual queue, like the boarding groups used for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance or with WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure.
With the removal of the virtual queue, the options to ride this attraction will mean waiting in the standby line or purchasing a Lightning Lane (LL). If you are unfamiliar with what a LL is read this article here and also learn about the difference between free Disney Genie option version the paid Disney Genie+.
Why did Disneyland change Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway attraction from a virtual queue to a standby line?
I believe that this change comes as part of a larger effort by Disneyland to streamline the park’s operations. Disneyland management has been making various modifications to park procedures in recent years, including the implementation of a new reservation system and the expansion of mobile ordering options. These have been proven very helpful and generally are very efficient so I don’t mind it much for the mobile ordering. I still do wish the reservation system was not in place but I do understand that it helps Disney prepare for running the parks as smoothly as possible.
Overall, this change will undoubtedly be welcomed by guests who have been frustrated at not receiving a virtual queue for this popular attraction. With the removal of the virtual queue, guests will be able to experience Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway at their own pace and without the added stress of securing a boarding pass, the downside is just the probability of a long wait time depending on when you visit.
