Learn how to reserve your spots for Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway and World of Color One at the Disney
When you visit the Disney Parks, it is often the goal for many guests to ride as many attractions as possible and to schedule in some time for incredible shows! Time is money when visiting Disneyland (DL) and it is important you know how to maximize on this, but it can feel daunting for many to plan their visit when they have never been to DL or Disneyland California Adventure (DCA). Not to worry though my Mouseketeer friend, because I’ve got you covered on how to reserve your spots this year for Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway and World of Color One at both Disneyland and Disneyland California Adventure.
See the announcement from Disney Parks Blog here!
In order for this to work you must first download the Disneyland app; otherwise you will be unable to reserve your spots for these! Visit this link here if you haven’t yet downloaded it.
Your Options for Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway and World of Color One at the Disney
1. Join the virtual queue (VQ)! This is absolutely FREE, but has some drawbacks.
2. Purchase Individual Lightning Lanes (LL’s). However please be aware that prices vary by date! The Disney Genie + is separate from buying individual LL’s. If you want to read more on what the Disney Genie + is and what it has to offer go here Is the Disney Genie Plus service worth it?
If you choose to go with the virtual queue option, there will be TWO different time frames to join for Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway in Disneyland. One begins at 7 am PST and you MUST have a valid theme park reservation; otherwise it will not work! Normally when queues are offered by Disney you would have to be in the park but not for this time frame. If you decide to join the virtual queue at 1 pm you MUST be scanned into either DL or DCA. If you are wanting to join the virtual queue for World of Color One the only time to do so is at 12 pm PT!
If you’re going in a group, I recommend you link all of the tickets in one account so that you can enroll everyone in the virtual queue at the same time.
Once you have joined the virtual queue you will be assigned a boarding group number and will receive a notification on your Disneyland app when the time is set for you to ride the attraction or when it is time to view the show. However due to popular demand of any attraction or show it is possible that you may not get any boarding passes!
This to me is the drawback of virtual queues, as they can be gone in a matter of minutes, unless of course you have speedy fingers and a great internet connection on your phone! You see I am telling you from experience as it happened to me while I was staying at the Disney Grand Californian Hotel & Spa when Webslingers: A Spider-Man Adventure debuted! I tried many, many times as an experienced park goer to join these virtual queues and it was just not working for me! Then again it could just have been my personal bad luck, who knows.
If you decide to forgo the virtual queue and purchase instead the Lighting Lane (LL) this will enable you to immediately get the notification of you getting a boarding pass with a time for return! The drawback with this option is that everyone in your party must have purchased their own individual LL and you will not know the price until the day you are in the park and depending on how crowded it is the price will be higher!
